First Post
This afternoon, while I was editing this video with Caleb, I realized how much is still unknown about this project. I’m really excited about seeing where it goes. While I was recording the voice over I thought about how hard it is express all these ideas in my head. Of course, it might have been that it was so early. I tried to record at 8 this morning but it was terrible. I’m just not a morning person, even after coffee. I think most of the recording was just me saying “… uh… can we try that again? Ok, uh… hum… yeah.” I took company class at 10 and felt so much better. At 11 I was awake enough to talk more clearly.
I now have 74 photos from Francois to inspire my choreography. I am at the point where I need to be clear with the collaborators but it’s hard just to talk with them. Francois is in France, Gilles is in Belgium and we’re leaving on tour in the morning. I’m also going to be honest and say that I’m not very organized. I’m lucky to have a lot of people around me who are and they help me out.
Check out these photos we did in late September. We went down to the financial district with the dancers and Gilles filmed them walking around and interacting with people. You should have seen the looks on people’s faces! Actually, you can, because all of the footage in the trailer is from that day. Glassy Essence is a little bit about that. How people are so wrapped up in their own world that they don’t see things around them. We made some of the photos into the desktop images that are in the downloads section. Gilles and I are actually in this one. Gilles is on Keller’s left and I’m right behind him.
I’m excited that we’re putting together our first blog. During the creative process you’ll be hearing from the dancers, the designers and my collaborators. I really want this to be interactive so leave comments or questions if you have them.
I’m excited about this process and I think it’s cool that we’ll be able to share it with people before the show.
